330 week 6 lego

Image
Lego project which I am trying to create is little bit big one, so I need more 3 times of this amount of Lego pieces.  What I am focusing on during creating blocks is a relationship of each piece and the formal size of Lego. I always using a ruler for 1/3 or 1 Lego length and the size of protrusion. A size of protrusion is always related to the bottom of the Lego blocks and if I missed the size of bottom, it's gonna hard to fix them. To be honest, it was.  Second thing I am focusing on is a nice geometry. I always careful to not create N-gons and triangles. Check that the object will be nice when subdivided. When I added a other rectangular-cube protrusion below, I needed to change geometries around of that. At least it took more that 30 minutes to edit geometries. According to the lecture, I sometimes scrape 3 way edges and make it 1 as well as I can.  In this assignment, I am really realized that the importance of measure tool. Points for the edge of measure tool is all vertica

330 week 5 Lego

Image
For this week, I began to create Lego Project. I use measure tool many times by referencing a real size image with each scale for each piece. I tries to create Lego blocks without staring at tutorial video, create with referring the final mesh image and some other real images. But the process of the bottom part was hard to create. Then I referred the tutorial video and learned that duplicate faces and bridge them is the best way to create the hole at the bottom. When I tried to make a hole with extrude the face, the shape is gonna weird when subdivided (it cannot keep the shape of square). In addition, I found that loop cut sometimes will create triangles but bevel edge won't usually make them. So it is better to use bevel edge when you keep the shape of corner when subdivided. Especially for this assignment, I'm focusing on measuring each piece size and scale, and to use measure tool. For the regular height and depth ruler, I only 3 points to create 2 rulers. This will be mo

330 week 2 tablet and pen

Image
Through this assignment, I learned that which part should I focus on by doing subdivision modeling. By adding loop cuts where you do not want to change the shape, the shape will be kept when subdivided.  For modeling a pen, the hardest part was a button. I was struggling to make faces without triangle. I got knowing that I can loop cut as it will have an extra vertex on the edge. And triangle will sometimes happen when beveling weird.  For the tablet, I was struggling to make sharp edges. Also, there was 2 small gaps around button and the edge of the tablet. These part was also hard points because these gap usually make N-gon outside of my concious. The tag was also hard to bend the shape because it does not work well when the tool is based on the world and I did not notice for 15 min.

330 week1 Faucet

Image
First week, I created Faucet by following provided tutorial, with subdivision modeling. It was first time to use subdivision surface modeling, so it took long time to understand a structure. The most interesting feature of this modeling is to use loop cut or bevel with turning chamfer off to keep the shape of the mesh when it subdivided. The edge shape will be changed by its interval with two edges. After doing this tutorial, I realized that subdivision modeling is good at modeling objects which have beautiful curves like faucet, but it's not good at modeling angular and hard objects.
